Damon Smolderhotter by pepperbunbun Damon Smolderhotter by pepperbunbun
I drew this as a birthday present for my mom--Damon Salvatore from the TV show "The Vampire Diaries," played by Ian Somerhalder. "Smolderhotter" is an inside joke between my mom and I. :D This portrait was a neat challenge because it was so close up and I could put a lot of detail into it. It's also the largest portrait I've drawn and my first time drawing facial hair!

12.5 in. x 12.5 in.
6H, 4H, HB, 2B, 3B, 4B, General's "Extra Black" Layout Pencil
Blending sticks, tissue, Q-tip for shading
Kneaded eraser

Thanks for looking! :)

Update: Readjusted the levels to make it look more like the actual drawing. Much better!

The best Smolderhotter I've seen. This guy is EVERYWHERE on DA lately. He, and Jared Leto, and Tom Hiddleston. I see each of them in my watch list at least once per day :)

Thank you!! And I know, those three guys are super popular on dA right now. Had this drawing not been a gift for my mom's birthday, I wouldn't have drawn him and added it to the mass collection of other Damon drawings. :D

Haha, thank you! :D Blending sticks (also called blending stumps or tortillons) are sticks made out of paper with a pointed end that is used for shading. I absolutely love them and use them whenever I draw; they blend much better and smoother than using your fingers. :)

I found some in sweden xD Didn'T know that I had to travel 1000km for that haha.
By the way, blend from lighter to darker side or just the other way?
Thankiiiies!

Oh my gosh, I hope you didn't travel all that way just to get the blending sticks!! I'm glad you found them though! As for how I blend, I normally blend all my lighter areas first before blending in the dark areas. Sometimes if I start off shading dark areas first and then try to shade light areas, there ends up being too much graphite on the blending stick and it shades too dark. I hope that makes sense!

I knew who it was, so I couldn't wait any longer to tell you how terrific this drawing is! Although, it's quite light in tone the portrait exceeds in terms of likelihood. Well done. :)
