The Eyes That Cry

FULLVIEW PLEASE!

Mixed emotions, too many emotions
Not sure how to feel.
This pain’s been hanging ‘round a while
And it won’t let me off its reel.

Where’s the light? It’s been so dark
And I can’t seem to find the switch
That will save me from this hell
There’s no escaping from this ditch.

And the eyes that cry
They follow, weeping, sobbing
Can’t tell whose they are or why
I don’t know, they might just be mine.

I’ve heard the drinking stops the pain,
And that the pills make things okay
Not real sure what good they’ll do
Long as I’ll make it through the day.

The outcasts, misfits, they’re all there
Shooting up and taking smokes.
It’s their hidden way of life
Even if it’s all a hoax.

I don’t know, they might just be mine.

Gotten so caught up in this game
I’m killing myself to block the pain.
I can’t go back, I can’t move forward
There’s nothing left here I can gain.

This is really different than any of my other drawings; it’s actually more of a concept than a drawing. I drew this to help deal with some of the hurt I’ve been feeling, as a bystander watching someone I love make decisions that I believe are hurting them.

I wanted to draw a picture with things people chose to abuse: drugs, pills, alcohol, nicotine, etc. I also wanted to include crying eyes, as if they’re watching the abusers. They represent family, friends, strangers, or anyone who is affected or hurt by the abusers’ actions, or they could even represent the abusers themselves, struggling with addiction.

This was drawn on white drawing paper; the drawing itself is about 8 inches tall and12 inches wide. I used graphite pencils ranging in hardness from 6B to 4H, and used tortillians for shading and blending. This took around 5-6 hours total. The only things I did digitally were adjusting the values and adding the border. Thank you for viewing and God bless!
